SplashX Invent Health - Future of Clinics

HP Challenge: How can our local clinics become hip to a newer generation? March 15, 2018 - HP Headquarters and Museum, Palo Alto, CA

Welcome to SplashX Invent Health (#splashxinventhealth), a quarterly twilight salon-styled tech talk and mixer produced by HP and Vator, where valuable lessons and insights are shared by investors, founders, and C-level executives from healthtech startups. Splash Talks and Splash Chats are 20 minutes of pure, raw wisdom about a particular topic - sometimes fundraising, sometimes scaling.

In this case, the topic is the “Behavioral and Mental Health.” There is a rise of mental illness across the country with one out of five Americans suffering from some sort of mental disorder, whether it’s depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. This is surprising considering depression was rare 50 years ago. Critics argue the rise has a lot to do with pathologizing normal psychic and somatic behavior. There’s a lot of truth to this given society’s idea of normal means never feeling sad or hopeless, and society’s inability to find lasting hope. Some argue antidepressant drugmakers, who’ve seen their drug usage rise 400 percent in two decades are behind the pathologizing. There’s also no genetic correlation between genes and varying degrees of mental illness. There is one thing, however, a lack of therapists to help. It’s no wonder there’s a rise in behavioral and cognitive behavioral therapies online. If antipsychotics can’t really help, at least a community or even a chatbot may help. What are these new services and are they effective? How are employers and health organizations incorporating them?

HP’s Dr. Archana Dubey and Vator’s Bambi Francisco are hosting the event.

Vator (short for innovator) is a vibrant startup and investor community, founded by veteran, award-winning business journalist, Bambi Francisco.

Splash is Vator’s large startup and investor festival and one of the most popular pitch competitions in the U.S.

SplashX is Vator’s intimate Splash by night, a tech talk series and mixer where top influencers, entrepreneurs, and investors share insights on what's trending and valuable lessons on fundraising, building, and scaling a startup.

Launched in 2010 in San Francisco, Splash events, competitions, and verticals, such as Splash Health, Post Seed, and SplashX have expanded to NY, LA, London, and Oakland.
